15th District

15th District
Outlook: Safe Republican

This is our first non incumbent that we are ready to project as a new Delegate!

Todd Gilbert, a local prosecutor from Shenandoah County was nominated without opposition by the Republicans in this district currently represented by Delegate Louderback.

Democrats had a strong potential opponent in Mt. Jackson Councilman Rodney Shepherd, but he opted out of what would be an uphill fight. Instead it appears the Democrat will be James Kent Blubaugh of Rappahannock County.

Rappahannock, Shenandoah and Page, which make up this district all went for George W. Bush last year, all went for Mark Earley over Mark Warner as well as solidly against Tim Kaine, and for Jerry Kilgore. I took a look back for the last 10 years, the only time Democrats have run close in these counties were when Mark Warner challenged John Warner for the U.S. Senate seat in 1996 (protest vote from conservatives?) and when "Cooter" Jones challenged Congressman Cantor (that one did not include Shenandoah in the 10th district). In short, without a TV star or a protest vote the Democrats are sunk here. We are putting Del-Elect Gilbert in the winner column.
