While we are working on getting a candidates list- open thread- what are you hearing in your area about candidates? Anyone really impressive that we should be talking about?

I've been most impressed by David Englin in the 45th district. He is in a 6 way Dem primary fight and he was virtually unknown 4 months ago. He has combined online efforts with incredible grassroots strength and raising more than any of his significant competition. He has the most progressive message in this very liberal district and is executing his party building plan within his own campaign. He very well may be the future of the party, if not in politics, definitely in campaign strategy. See for yourself: http://www.davidenglin.org

Charlie: I'm also impressed by the online effort. I don't know much about what's going on at the ground level up there in Oldeee Towneee, but I'll take your word for it.

How about the McEachin-Miles primary. Thoughts?

Oh yeah mean Wilder vs. Miles? No idea. Here's an article on it:

Don McEachin is back

since this is an open thead, here's a suggestion:

If you really want to get this site humming (and make it more informative), edit the side bar and add candidate websites for contested races. Also, set up a "fake" yahoo account where people can reach you with anonymous tips.

Here's another tip: If you want to find out what other bloggers are saying about a particular race, go to google and type in both candidates last names without quotes. You should get a bunch of hits to both blog pieces and press pieces. It's a good trick for campaign managers, too. This one's free, but the next one's gonna cost ya.

On second thought: don't do the anonymous email account. That might deprive me of the amusement of seeing lunatics post anonymous stuff on here.

Oh and if the candidates last names are "smith" and "jones" then that obviously won't work. Include the first name.

Ok, i'm done talking to myself.

PS: I hate exams.

I don't know much about the McEachin-Miles contest. I know that McEachin ran a horrible campaign in 2001 for Attorney General. Of course, this is his home territory and since he won handily several times before giving up the seat, it should be an interesting fight. The Wilder connection will make it even more interesting.

Does anyone know who's running to replace Pollard in the 99th district? It was huge for Democrats when he won the seat a few years back, but now the Dems needs someone to replace him?

Rob Wittman is running in the 99th. Repub and chair of the Westmoreland Board. Well respected by most up and down the Neck. He is a strong proponent of conservative approaches to the natural resource based economy of the Neck. Conserve and appropriately use the fisheries, ag and timber of the neck - it has been the economic blood of the region for centuries and should be conserved and used in ways that it will continued to be. He is a PhD in public health policy and an expert in shellfish but does not like being called Dr Wittman, folks on the Neck know him as Rob

What about the 13th?

I heard via Waldo Jaquith that Linda Crandell is also running in the 99th.

Charlie, I'm likewise extremely impressed with the Englin campaign.

Further to Wahoo Dan's comment, I'm looking myself for candidate blogs (i.e., not staff blogs, but blogs really written by candidates). So far, I know of candidate blogs by David Englin in the 45th and Janet Oleszek in the 37th, and it looks like Bruce Rommelt writes at least some of his own posts on his campaign blog. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first cycle that we've had house candidates writing blogs in Virginia. Do we have any other candidate-bloggers out there?

Also, does anyone know what's going on in the primary in District 71 (to replace Del. Viola Baskerville)?

Wahoo- Great idea. I will work on that today.

99th District- We opened a thread on that last week and got zero comments. Where were you all? Now you have to wait until you get another thread. :)
